Make The Cards Challenge #11: Sketch 4

Howdy! I don’t have a tutorial for you today for the Make the Cards Challenge #11, but I do have a card to share! This week’s challenge is based on Sketch #4.

Immediately, this shape looked kinda familiar to me. I rummaged through my collection of Spellbinders Glimmer Plates and found exactly what I was looking for – it’s a Geometric Floral set and was perfect for this challenge. With a blending brush, I ink blended the background a little with some Distress Oxide in Kitch Flamingo. Then, I flicked some water on it and got the Glimmer Hot Foil System ready.

There are dies in this set too, but I didn’t use those or the floral Glimmer plates. I was only interested in the frame. Isn’t it gorgeous foiled in Gold?!

Fancy Handiwork

For the floral part of the design, I decided to do a little hand quilling.

What can I say? It’s my first paper crafting love. There’s no way that I can really tell you how to do this; it would probably need to be a video. Hence, why there’s no full tutorial today. But in case you’re interested, I wrote a post on hand quilling years ago if you want to take a look.

I used an old hydrangea punch from Martha Stewart to create the flowers, and then I shaped them with a paper shaping set. That particular punch is retired now (I think), so I linked an EK Success Hydrangea Punch you can get.

To adhere the flowers, I used small dabs of glue (which was what I used for attaching the quilled scrollwork, too).

For the sentiment, I used another Spellbinders Glimmer Plate set called Heartfelt Sentiments. I love that it has matching dies!

To finish up, I trimmed and mounted my completed panel onto some gold cardstock and a slightly larger piece of hot pink. After that, I added Nuvo drops in Simply White to the flower centers.

Then, I adhered the piece to an A2 card base. Done!

Thanks for popping in today! What do you think? Should I do a video or two on this type of quilling? Let me know in the comments. Don’t forget to head back to the Make the Cards Challenge #11 to upload your own sketch-inspired design!

  1. Even after the cats ate the quilling…it still turned out beautifully! (hahahahaha!) Thank you for being our guest designer this week.
