Hello! The last few cards I’ve made with the Hedgehog Holow February kit, I stayed with traditional “bee colors” – yellow and black, and maybe a dab of blue here and there. Today, I decided to put together a one-layer card with a rainbow blended background, but I did it with just three colors of Distress Ink!

To start out, I used some masking paper from Inkadinkado and a stitched oval die to mask off the area for my sentiment. There’s a reason I used the stitched die – more on that in a bit 🙂

Next, I picked out the three colors of Distress Ink I wanted to use: Worn Lipstick, Scattered Straw, and Tumbled Glass. To blend them together and create a frame, I started my ink blending tool on the masking paper and worked my way out and around, alternating the colors.

I love how it blends and creates the purple, green, and orange without me having to dig out more inks

Then, just to break it up a little, I flicked a bit of water over the dried ink and dabbed up the excess.

The next thing was to stamp my bee design in black ink. I used Versafine Clair in Nocturne since I was using a block to stamp, and I didn’t want to have to stamp twice. I also made sure to overlap some of the images onto the masked oval in a few places.

After all the bees and honeycombs were stamped, I peeled off the oval and added a few dots with a Sharpie Brush marker to fill in any gaps.

Notice the dots where the ink bled through the stitched areas from the die? I used them to draw in some black stitching. It really helped to keep my line straight as I was working my way around 🙂

Then, I stamped the sentiment in the center of the oval area, and added in a few dots with the Sharpie marker there as well.

I trimmed my stamped panel to 4” x 5.25” and matted it on a 5.5” x 4.25” piece of fuchsia cardstock before adhering it onto an A2 card base. And to finish up the card, I added some clear drops with Glossy Accents around the inked area on the card front.
