A Thoughtful Ink Blended Eucalyptus Card
Howdy! I have a super pretty ink blended eucalyptus card for you today. My friend Jill over at JillCameronCreations was kind enough to let me test drive one of her SVGs from the October release.
Of course, I was all over these eucalyptus sprigs! I love the look of eucalyptus – I have a hanging plant in my kitchen that is just gorgeous. It was this plant that inspired the background on the card.
Cutting & Coloring the Eucalyptus Stems
Now, the SVGs for the sprigs are outlines, so I used my Silhouette CAMEO, a little imagination, and a few Copic Sketch markers to bring them to life.
I needed just a couple for the foreground of my card (the hand-colored stems) and a bunch more for ink blending stencils… or in case I messed up. I used the setting for heavyweight cardstock in Silhouette Studio and cut six sets (three each of two sizes). The larger ones across the top are for my background.
I picked the two very best cuts from the shorter ones to color with Copic Sketch markers. To get the leaf shapes, I outlined where I thought each would go with my mid-color, YG63. Then, I blended using a combination of YG63 and YG61. To add a little depth, I added touches of YG67 to the actual stem and other places, blending as I went.
Once those were looking good, I started on the background.
Ink Blending the Background
The background is an A2 piece of Neenah cardstock. To ink-blend the eucalyptus shapes onto the cardstock, I sprayed a few of the larger diecut stems with Pixie Spray. It’s a repositionable adhesive and works wonders to keep your stencils still. Also, it works on stencils cut from cardstock.
For the first layer, I stuck down a few stems and ink blended with a brush around the edges.
Then, I adjusted them and added a second layer of ink. Finally, I did one more round of moving and inking the eucalyptus.
I waited for that to dry and then added some splattered ink by tapping off the spritzer from a bottle of Nuvo Mica Mist in Wild Olive.
The black frame is from Altenew’s Fine Frames Die Set, and I adhered it using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. I added the tall stem of hand-colored eucalyptus with the same adhesive but used foam squares for the second one to add more dimension.
The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink, in a set called It’s The Thought. I used a Mini Misti for perfect placement (and an extra layer of ink to really make it crisp). The stamp set is long retired now, but you could use any of your favorite sentiments you have in your stash.
To finish up, I adhered the card front onto an A2 card base, and that’s it! I hope you liked the ink blended eucalyptus card I made today! If you have a sec, feel free to pin this to your inspiration Pinterest board. Thanks so much for popping by!
