Birthday Birdies: The April 2019 Kit from The Hedgehog Hollow
Hello! Have you seen the contents of the April 2019 Kit from The Hedgehog Hollow yet? I’m in love with the Art Impressions stamp set. The little birds are so stinkin’ cute! I couldn’t resist coloring a flock of them to make this birthday card.
The first thing I did was create a frame with the shimmery blue kit paper and a Papertrey Ink die from my stash. For the background, I chose a lattice design from the 6×6 Dream in Color patterned paper stack.
Then, I sorted out where I wanted the sentiment to be. I used a MISTI to stamp it twice with the Nuvo Hybrid Ink Pad in Black Shadow (that came in the kit too!
Next, I trimmed the lattice paper to 5.25” x 4”, and adhered the frame with a few strips of foam tape. Now it was time to put together the center area!
The black Nuvo Hybrid Ink Pad is great for coloring with water-based and alcohol inks because it doesn’t smudge, so that’s what I used to stamp the bird images onto white cardstock
I didn’t use a wet ink to color, though – I’m still on the Prismacolor Pencils kick, and they were perfect for coloring those birdies! To get the shadows, I added an extra layer of color in the same shade as the bird.
The pencils I used are:
- Nectar & 30% Gray for the gray birds
- Blue Violet Lake for the bluebirds (belly is white)
I also colored in the branches on the card with Tuscan Red and Prussian Green to make them a bit more interesting. As I was adhering them, I trimmed the ends so they would tuck nicely under the frame before giving some of the leaves an extra dab of Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to keep them in place. I let the ends stay free for a bit of dimension.
Next, I attached the birds with small squares of foam adhesive.
The branches needed just a little something extra, and I had just the thing: tiny dried flowers. They are usually for fingernail art designs, but I find them lovely as an embellishment on cards.
I picked out some yellow/orange blossoms and tacked them in place with more Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. That stuff’s good for everything, I tell ya! 🙂
Thanks for reading about my card for today. Aren’t those little birds adorable?! I hope you pick up April 2019 Kit at The Hedgehog Hollow too – I would love to see what you make with it!
