CardMaker Magazine & Craftin Desert Divas Blog Hop

Hey! Thanks for joining us today for the CardMaker Magazine & Craftin Desert Divas Blog Hop. You should have gotten here by way of Tatiana’s blog, but if you’ve gotten lost be sure to head back to the beginning here, so you don’t miss a thing!

Craftin Desert Divas was kind enough to send us each a stamp set to play with, and I got Summer Vibin’. The little mermaid in this set is so dang cute, and the unicorn is too. Oh, what am I saying – the whole thing is fabulous! There’s even a tiny margarita image in there. That’s an instant win in my books 😉

Of course, I went with the mermaid and the sun for my card today. To make the background, I cut a piece of Arches Watercolor Paper and painted a rectangle of clear water. Then, I swirled some blue and green pearl watercolors from the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Set into it.

While that was drying, I stamped the mermaid and the sun in Staz-on Ink and colored them with Zig Clean Color Brush Pens.

You can really see the pearl finish of the paint in the photo, huh? The highlights and extra sparkles were made with a Uniball Signo pen in white and a GellyRoll pen in silver.

Once the background was dry, I die cut the circle and heat embossed the little starfish images with White Detail Embossing Powder. Then I adhered it to the turquoise cardstock (Bazzill Candy Necklace) to frame the watercolor panel.

Using some foam tape, I popped up the inner circle from the panel and attached my mermaid and sun. Next, I added a few sequins with some Glossy Accents to hold them in place.

Then, I heat embossed the sentiment on a strip of matching cardstock. To finish off, I flagged the ends of the strip and attached it to the card front with foam tape.

  1. I love the shimmer in those watercolors- I did not know they were shiny like that! Great background- a fun backdrop for your sweet mermaid and sun!

    1. Thanks, Brooke 🙂 I’ve tried quite a few shimmery watercolor sets, and that one is the best by far!
